Kabir's Khadau (Footwear)
The Smriti Kaksh also exhibits
Kabir’s old and dilapidated khadau (footwear) that measure 22.5 cm in
length, 7.5 cm in width, and 3 cm in height, displayed on a stool.
During the freedom struggle Mahatma Gandhi visited Kabirchaura Math in
1934 AD. The Mahatma expressed deep distress upon the pitiable condition
of Sant Kabir’s footwear, following which the Math members took action
and preserved the footwear in a glass case. From the historical as well
archaeological perspective, this footwear is of great significance and
enjoys great fame as well. Pilgrims and tourists flock the place
annually to have a look at the khadau.
